Gym Keen and Under-16?
Youth aged 14-15 years currently require supervision by a person aged 17 years or older if they wish to use equipment in the Centre due to specific safety considerations for this age group. We understand that parents are not always available to supervise due to other work and family commitments and we also understand that teenagers of this age do not always wish to be supervised by their parents! We believe by offering supervised weights and cardio sessions to youth aged 14-15 years, this allows them to start their health and fitness experience in a controlled and safe environment and also potentially set them up with skills that we hope will encourage a lifetime of being healthy and active through establishing confidence and competency in a gym environment.
Each youth will have an exercise consultation with one of our qualified staff that will be specific to their age, needs and ability. They will workout individually, however, they will be part of a larger group of similar age and ability and staff will be on hand if they require support or guidance. We encourage independence within the group allowing participants the freedom to workout with friends…or make new ones!
The Youth Fit Membership includes access to:
- 2x weekly supervised weights and cardio sessions (Tues & Thurs 3.30 – 5pm)
- Individualised exercise programme with experienced and qualified staff (pre booked)
- Access to squash courts and sports hall
- Access to group exercise classes
Please note that supervision is only provided during the sessions/hours specified. If Youth Fit participants wish to access squash courts, sports hall or group exercise classes outside these session times then this will not be supervised. Rec Centre Youth policy applies and the Youth Fit membership excludes access to main weights room. Youth wishing to use cardio equipment outside session times must first be approved by our Exercise Consultancy Manager (contact details below).
Cost: Student membership options are available for those wishing to participate in the Youth Fit programme.
